Prayer
Why pray?
We as Christians are called to pray. Prayer was a priority in Jesus' life. Prayer is the most fundamental way we can communicate with Our Father in Heaven. Likewise Jesus also instructs us to pray in Matt. 6:9-13. God uses his people to open up the gates of heaven by teaching us how to pray according to His will.
-We are called to a lifestyle of prayer.
Pray without ceasing.
(1 Thess. 5:17)
-The Holy Spirit helps us to intercede according to God's will. We are not left alone to our own resources.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the Saints in accordance with God's will.
(Romans 8:26, 27)
-Prayers can cause God to relent and change His mind like He did when Moses prayed.
But Moses sought the favor of the Lord his God. "O Lord," he said, "why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say 'It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth'? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people. Remember your servant Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self. 'I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.' Then the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.
(Exodus 32: 11-14)
-God responds only to the prayers of his children in some of his activities.
Truly I say to you, whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
(Matthew 18:18)
Heaven waits for intercessors to pray for things to happen. When we pray in faith, God moves and His will will be done on earth.
